Someone robbed me of my intellectual property. I should sue. This is excellent.

“Only part of us is sane. Only part of us loves pleasure and the longer day of happiness, wants to live to our nineties and die in peace, in a house that we built to shelter us. The other half of us is nearly mad. It prefers the disagreeable, loves pain and its darker night, and wants to die in a catastrophe that will set life back to its beginnings and leave nothing of our house save its blackened foundations.”

- Rebecca West

“Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”
-Sex and the City

“On one issue, at least, men and women agree: they both distrust women”
-H.L. Mencken

“In the name of the values that keep you alive, do not let your vision of man be distorted by the ugly, the cowardly, the mindless… Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it’s yours.”
-Ayn Rand

“Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love, the clarity of hatred, and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we’d know some kind of peace… but we would be hollow… Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we’d be truly dead.”
-Joss Whedon

“If you wait to do everything until you’re sure it’s right, you’ll probably never do much of anything.”
-Win Borden

“…We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.”
- Charles Swindoll

“Three o’clock is always too late or too early for anything you want to do.”
-Jean-Paul Sartre

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude”
-Denis Waitley

My favorite quotes of all time. They inspire me, and I hope they’ll inspire you too.

“America must stop bragging that it’s the ‘Greatest Country On Earth’, and start acting like it. Now I know this is uncomfortable for the faith over facts crowd, but the greatness of a country can, to a large degree, be measured. Here are some numbers: Infant mortality rate, America ranks 48th in the world. Overall health, 72nd. Freedom of the press, 44. Literacy, 55th! Do you realize there are twelve year old kids in this country who can’t spell the name of the teacher they’re having sex with? Now America, I will admit, has done many great things. Making the new world democratic comes to mind. The Marshall Plan, curing Polio, beating Hitler. The deep fried Twinky. But what have we done for us lately? We’re not the freest Country. That would be Holland, where you can smoke hash in church, and Janet Jackson’s nipple is on their flag. Sadly, we’re no longer a country that can get things done, either. Not big things, like building a tunnel under Boston, or running a war with competence. We had six years to fix the voting machines - couldn’t get that done. The FBI is just now getting email! Prop 87 out here in California is about lessening our dependence on oil by using alternative fuels, and Bill Clinton comes on at the end of the ad and says, ‘If Brazil can do it, America can too!’ Excuse me, since when did America have to buck itself up by saying we could catch up to Brazil?! We invented the Airplane and the light bulb, they invented the Bikini Wax, and now they’re ahead? In most of the industrialized world, nearly everyone has health care. And hardly anyone doubts Evolution! And yes, having to live amid so many superstitious dim wits is also something that affects quality of life. It’s why America isn’t going to be the country that gets the inevitable patents in Stem Cell cures because JESUS THINKS IT’S TOO CLOSE TO CLONING! Oh, and did I mention we owe China a trillion dollars? We owe everybody money. We’re not on a bridge to the 21st century, we’re on a bus to Atlantic City with a roll of quarters! And this is why it bugs me when so many people talk like it’s 1955, and we’re still number one in everything. We’re not! I take no glee in saying this because I love my country, and I wish we were. But when you’re number 55 in this category, and number 92 in that one, you look a little silly waving the big foam #1 finger.”
- Bill Maher, New Rules: America Isn’t #1
